The Department of Biology at UCF consists of an active group of researchers encompassing a broad spectrum of topics. The members of the faculty have formed interdisciplinary relationships within our department and throughout other departments at UCF, as well as with partners such as Hubbs-Sea World Research Institute and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Our laboratories help train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research scientists, visiting scientists and undergraduates. In 2005, the department received over 45 grants and currently has over $2.8 million in funding. These included grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and other federal, state and local agencies. Furthermore, faculty and student research has appeared in well-respected journals in areas spanning from Genetics to Applied Conservation. The future of the department is even brighter. Currently, the department has 26 Ph.D. students and a vigorous Masters program. We anticipate that our Ph.D. program in Conservation Biology will bring even more graduate students in the future.
