UCF Features 3 International Pianists in Spring Concert Series
ORLANDO, Jan. 6, 2006 -- UCF will host a three-concert piano series this spring that exhibits three renowned pianists. Solo pianists from France, Italy, and America will perform at this international event.
Frenchman Bertrand Giraud will perform classical French pieces on February 19 at 3:00 PM. Associate Professor Laurent Boukobza, chair of the UCF piano studies division, will present Romantic piano pieces on March 5 at 3:00 PM. Steve Vaglica, a dual-citizen of Italy and America, will close the series with his Romantic piano concert on April 8 at 8:00 PM. All concerts will be held in the UCF Rehearsal Hall. Admission is $20 or $10 for UCF students, faculty, and staff with a valid I.D.
Bertrand Giraud, a native of France, will present the opening concert. Mr. Giraud performs regularly throughout Europe and in New York City. He has appeared on American, Italian, and Thai television, and he has recorded three CDs. For this concert, he will perform several selection by composer F. Liszt: 3 sonnets of Pétrarqua and 3 transcendental Etudes (#1, 9, and 11). He will also present J. Brahms's sonata #3 in F minor Op.5.
Laurent Boukobza, a native of France, currently lives in Central Florida. He is chair of Piano Studies at UCF. Mr. Boukobza is regularly invited to perform worldwide and has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and America. For this concert, he will perform F. Liszt's 'Spanish Rhapsody' and 'Apres une Lecture of Dante'; and F. Chopin's 2nd Ballade Op. 38 in F Major, 2nd Scherzo Op. 31 in B flat minor, and 3rd Ballade Op. 47 in A flat Major.
Stephen Vaglica lives between Italy and America. He has played to world audiences winning universal acclaim and notoriety. He is also co-founder and director of the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Music Festival.
