UCF Graduate Studies |
The Department of Biology is a broad based department with research active faculty in all areas of inquiry within the biological sciences. Emphases and research strengths lie in ecology / evolution / conservation and genetics / cell / development. The Department offers a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology, a Master of Science in Biology (thesis and non-thesis tracks), and a Graduate Certificate in Conservation Biology. The Department also participates in the Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences program. Collectively, these programs offer a diversity of choices for students wishing to continue their education at the graduate level. The Graduate Certificate in Conservation Biology enables post-baccalaureate students to focus on current issues in conservation and gain some specialized training in this area. The Masters program offers a breadth of course work and intensive research training in most areas of biological inquiry. The Ph.D. in Conservation Biology is available to students who seek extensive training in biological science research and prepares students for careers in academia, industry or government. This Ph.D. program focuses on understanding the biological problems underlying habitat destruction, loss of biodiversity, and associated issues, along with conservation strategies to ameliorate consequences of human intervention. The interdepartmental Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences focuses on inquiry at the cellular and molecular level. |
