Recent Accomplishments June, 2007: Biology professor Dr. Eric A. Hoffman published this noteworthy manuscript: Gene expression and the evolution of phenotypic diversity in social wasps. Hoffman, EA & MAD Goodisman. 2007. BMC Biology 2007, 5:23. BMC Biology is the the flagship biology journal of the BMC journal series. This journal publishes research and methodology articles of special importance and broad interest in any area of biology and biomedical sciences. As of 10:45 PM on Thursday May 31, this article was ranked #1 as most viewed article in BMC Biology during the last 30 days with a total of 1640 hits! Research Interests
Dr. Hoffman’s research interests involve evolutionary questions concerning patterns of genetic and morphological variation. In particular, he is interested in how evolutionary forces (selection, migration, and genetic drift) work in various ways to influence the evolutionary history of a species. Additionally, his interests include how molecular markers can be used to determine the presence of natural selection on particular genotypes or phenotypes. Here, populations that show discordance between various molecular markers can be used to infer the effects of natural selection. His recent work has taken a more genomic approach to studying comparative phenotypic variation and the evolution of novel phenotypes. Selected Publications Hoffman, E. A. and M. A. D. Goodisman.
