Research Interests

Emeritus Professor Kuhn is a developmental geneticist who explores the roles played by homeotic genes during embryogenesis. This class of genes causes normal anatomical structures to be expressed in inappropriate locations. These studies are conducted with the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as the model organism. His group and his collaborators current interests focus on the role that retrotransposons play in regulating developmental genes. The techniques employed in these studies range from classical genetics to routine molecular techniques, including immunological detection of gene products to quantitative PCR and microarray analysis.
